In December 2025, police equipment donated by China’s Ministry of Public Security was formally handed over to the Vanuatu Police Force as part of ongoing bilateral policing and law-enforcement cooperation.
In September 2025, a Chinese police expert team conducted policing skills training for 13 Vanuatu Police Force officers on Malekula Island, covering defensive control skills and the use of police equipment.
On 26 August 2025, the Chinese Embassy in Vanuatu and the Vanuatu government jointly held a handover ceremony for seven patrol boats donated by the Chinese Government in Port Vila.
In December 2024, China donated three advanced patrol boats, motorcycles, jeeps and transport vehicles to the Vanuatu Police Force, alongside Chinese-led training for VPF officers.
In October 2024, the PLAN Type 055 destroyer Xianyang docked at Port Vila, Vanuatu. This was the first known deployment of a Type 055 surface combatant to the South Pacific.
In August 2023, the Chinese naval hospital ship Peace Ark arrived at Port Vila as the third stop of Harmonious Mission 2023 for a seven-day goodwill visit and humanitarian medical service, including outreach to local hospitals, villages and communities.

In January 2021, Vanuatu authorities intercepted two PRC-flagged fishing vessels, Dong Gang Xing 13 and Dong Gang Xing 16, for suspected illegal fishing and related offences in Vanuatu waters.
The Peace Ark arrived in Port Vila on July 23. During this eight-day stop, the medical team provided consultations for over 3,500 people and performed 20 surgeries.
The Luganville Wharf redevelopment, initated in 2013, was completed by Shanghai Construction Group thanks to a government concessional loan from China Eximbank (a state policy bank).

In December 2018, two Chinese research vessels - the Ke Xue and Hai Ce 3301 - entered PNG's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) north of Manus Island. The ships were part of a two-dozen strong Chinese "Distant-Ocean Research fleet" that had conducted expansive maritime surveys around the Philippines, Palau, Guam and Japan over the past two years.
On 3 November 2017, sixty-two vehicles costing a total of K17.5 million were donated to the PNGDF by the Chinese Ministry of National Defense. The donation included 44 troop carriers and 10 armoured vehicles.
In late December 2015, 40 military vehicles were gifted to the PNGDF, likely by the Chinese Ministry of National Defense. Due to the PNGDF's inability to pay the import tax, these vehicles sat on the wharf in Port Moresby for over a month.

In September 2025, China held the fourth Ministerial Dialogue on Police Capacity Building and Cooperation Between China and Pacific Island Countries in Lianyungang, co-chaired by Public Security Minister Wang Xiaohong and Tonga’s Minister for Police Paula Piukala, with heads of delegation from Fiji, Solomon Islands, Kiribati, Vanuatu, Samoa, Nauru and Papua New Guinea delivering speeches.

In December 2023, China held the second Ministerial Dialogue on Police Capacity Building and Cooperation Between China and Pacific Island Countries in Beijing, co-chaired by Public Security Minister Wang Xiaohong and Samoa’s Minister for Police and Prisons Faualo Harry Jeffrey Schuster, with delegations from Solomon Islands, Tonga, Kiribati, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and the Cook Islands attending.
In November 2022, China held the first Ministerial Dialogue on Police Capacity Building and Cooperation with some South Pacific island countries by video, co-chaired by Public Security Minister Wang Xiaohong and Solomon Islands Police Minister Anthony Veke, launching an annual dialogue mechanism on Pacific policing cooperation.
From September 2025, the PLAN hospital ship Silk Road Ark began Mission Harmony 2025, its first overseas deployment since entering service, heading to the South Pacific and Latin America to provide humanitarian medical services in 12 countries including Nauru, Fiji, Tonga and Papua New Guinea.
From July to September 2023, the PLA Navy hospital ship Peace Ark conducted Harmonious Mission 2023, visiting Kiribati, Tonga, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Timor-Leste to provide humanitarian medical services alongside courtesy calls and professional exchanges.
Spanning 205 days from June 28, 2018, to January 18, 2019, the PLAN hospital ship Peace Ark traveled over 31,500 nautical miles to provide free medical services to more than 50,000 people across 11 countries.

In December 2018, the People's Liberation Army donated a hydrographic and surveillance vessel (now RFNS Kacau) to the Fijian Navy. The PLAN also dispatched a team of 18 advisers to train the Fijian Navy to operate the ship.
The Peace Ark provided all-weather medical services to 6,000 locals and conducted specialized academic exchanges on combat casualty care with the Fijian Republic Military Forces.

The Chinese oceanographic research vessel Da Yang Hao arrived at Avatiu Harbour, Rarotonga, in November 2025 to conduct deep-sea surveys in Cook Islands waters in collaboration with the Cook Islands Seabed Minerals Authority (SBMA). Da Yang Hao has previously been accused of serving dual civilian and military purposes.
